The development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has resulted in the
explosion of information flow that is really overwhelming. ICT has indeed revolutionized
virtually all aspects of human society including academic disciplines like History. How has it
been in Nigeria? The study attempted to take a general overview of the state of ICT in Nigeria
by looking at ICT infrastructures, its level of presence in the Nigerian educational sector; and
efforts being made to integrate ICT in teaching and learning especially of History. It could as
well be stated that while the availability of enormous quantum of information has been made
available by the development of ICT, this has not translated into the teaching and learning of
history in Nigeria. Thus, the study examines the extent to which ICT has been adopted into the
teaching and learning of History in Nigeria. The study used Secondary data, and content
analysis its analysis of the state of affairs of ICT in advancing the teaching and learning of
History in Nigeria. The study finds that despite the development of ICT and the resultant
availability of information, not much has been done in adopting ICT in the teaching of History
in Institutions of learning in Nigeria due mainly to the dearth of infrastructures that should
support the teaching and learning of history in Nigeria. The three major components of ICT
mainly telecommunications, computing and connectivity are yet to be available and affordable
in all schools in Nigeria. The study recommends that these three broad components be made
more available in educational institutions across the country. The teaching of ICT should be
made compulsory in all schools and this will translate to the teaching and learning of History
in Nigeria.
